Babulon is the named city associated with deportation and exile, and with the great city announced as fallen and judged.

The term most often names “Babylon the great” in pronouncements of collapse, judgment, and destruction in Revelation. Elsewhere it identifies the place connected with deportation, exile beyond it, and a location from which greetings are sent.

1. The great city under judgment · dominant

   In Revelation 14:8 and Revelation 18:2, the nominative form stands in announcements that Babylon the great has fallen or collapsed. Revelation 16:19, Revelation 18:10, and Revelation 18:21 place it within scenes of wrath, judgment, and violent overthrow; in Revelation 17:5 the APB renders the name in the inscription "Mystery, Babylon the great."

2. Place named in deportation, exile, and greeting · common

   The genitive singular form occurs with the deportation in Matthew 1:11, Matthew 1:12, and Matthew 1:17, marking Babylon in that repeated historical marker. In Acts 7:43 the APB renders exile "beyond Babylon," while 1 Peter 5:13 uses the dative singular form in a greeting sent from Babylon.

In the Anselm Project Bible: The APB consistently presents the name as "Babylon," often adding "the great" or "the great city" in Revelation. In Matthew it appears in the phrase "the deportation of Babylon," and in Acts 7:43 and 1 Peter 5:13 it is presented as a location.
