In Exodus 5:7, the same masculine singular absolute form occurs twice in Pharaoh's order not to supply the people with the material for making bricks and to make them gather it themselves; Exodus 5:16 joins its absence to the command, "Make bricks." Genesis 24:32 places it with fodder for camels, while Isaiah 11:7 depicts a lion eating it like an ox. Jeremiah 23:28 sets it beside wheat, and Job 21:18 compares the wicked to it before the wind.
In the Anselm Project Bible: The APB explicitly presents the noun as "straw" in the brickmaking, animal-provision, animal-diet, wheat-comparison, and wind-comparison contexts. In 1 Kings 5:8 and Job 41:19, the supplied APB wording does not make this noun's contribution apparent.
