she.ma denotes a report or heard message, including news that prompts response, fear, or speech.

The attested use concerns a report or communicated news that people hear: it may bring the queen of Sheba to Solomon, cause peoples or rulers to tremble or withdraw, or become the basis for a response. The same use also occurs where a report is false, where it is heard only indirectly, and where it is associated with an assembly.

   The construct noun identifies what is heard in clauses of receiving news: in 1 Kings 10:1 the APB renders the queen of Sheba hearing "the report of Solomon," after which she comes to test him; in Jeremiah 37:5 the besieging Chaldeans hear a report and withdraw. In Deuteronomy 2:25, Isaiah 23:5, and Jeremiah 50:43, hearing the report is followed by trembling, distress, or fear; Exodus 23:1 places it in the warning not to lift up "a false report."

In the Anselm Project Bible: The APB commonly presents the noun as "report," including reports heard about Solomon, Jacob, nations, Tyre, and Babylon. In Job 42:5 it instead renders the surrounding clause "heard of you by the hearing of the ear"; This variation does not establish a separate lexical sense.
