ye.vul denotes the land’s agricultural yield, whether expected, withheld, ruined, or given.

The term consistently denotes agricultural yield associated with the land: it is given with rain, withheld in drought or judgment, destroyed by enemies or locusts, and anticipated in conditions of peace and security.

Senses in use

  1. Agricultural yield of the land · dominant

The construct form occurs with land and its yield: in Leviticus 26:4 the APB renders the clause "the land shall yield its crops," while Leviticus 26:20 presents the same yield as withheld. It can be destroyed or taken away, as Judges 6:4 says invaders "ruined the produce of the land" and Psalm 78:46 says it was given to the locust; Ezekiel 34:27 and Zechariah 8:12 place the land’s yield alongside fruit and dew.

In the Anselm Project Bible: The APB variously presents the land’s yield as "produce," "crops," or "crop," and in Job 20:28 as "The produce of his house." These are verse-level renderings rather than definitions.
