The attested forms describe lands, cities, sanctuaries, and peoples brought to ruin or left devastated; active forms also identify those who inflict that devastation.

   In Ezekiel 6:6, Qal imperfect forms occur in the announced destruction of cities and high places; the APB renders the outcome as cities “destroyed” and high places “desolate.” In Ezekiel 26:19 and Nehemiah 2:17, passive and adjectival forms describe a city as ruined or destroyed, while Hiphil forms in 2 Kings 19:17 and Isaiah 42:15 place the devastation in the action of kings or a first-person speaker.
