The absolute noun occurs in descriptions of a space built within the house and prepared for the ark: in 1 Kings 6:16 the APB renders it as “the inner sanctuary, the most holy place,” and in 1 Kings 6:19 it is the place prepared “to place there the ark of the covenant of the LORD.” In 1 Kings 6:23 and 1 Kings 6:31, the APB places the cherubim and the entrance in this area; the construct form in 1 Kings 8:6 occurs where the priests bring the ark into its place beneath the cherubim. Psalm 28:2 uses the construct form in the prayer clause where the speaker lifts his hands toward the holy sanctuary.
