Perichoros denotes the surrounding locality or district around a named place or population center.

The term consistently identifies the surrounding locality attached to a named area or community: people come from the area around the Jordan, reports spread through districts around Galilee and Judea, and actions extend to the territory around Lystra and Derbe.

1. The surrounding locality of a place · dominant

   The feminine singular forms mark a locality described in relation to another place: in Luke 3:3 the APB renders the setting as “all the region around the Jordan,” and in Acts 14:6 it names the territory around Lystra and Derbe. The same use frames the spread of reports or public response: in Mark 1:28 the APB renders news going into “all the surrounding region of Galilee,” while Matthew 14:35 describes word being sent into “all that surrounding region.”

In the Anselm Project Bible: The APB variously presents the locality as “the region around the Jordan,” “the surrounding region,” and “the region of the Gerasenes.” These phrases show the verse-level presentation rather than fixed English equivalents.
