Nous names the faculty of thought and understanding, also portrayed as renewed, corrupted, united, or guarded.

   The noun is used where understanding or purposeful thinking is in view. In Luke 24:45 the APB renders minds being opened “to understand the Scriptures”; in 1 Corinthians 14:15 it renders praying and singing “with the mind,” and in Revelation 13:18 it places the needed mind alongside calculating a number.
