Tyre
Tyre is a sea-entry city named across the biblical canon, especially in prophetic oracles and travel accounts.
In the Bible, Tyre is a city by the sea: Joshua’s boundary description calls it a fortified city and says the border’s outgoings were at the sea Joshua 19:29. The atlas description identifies Tyre as a great Phoenician port and a source of cedar for Solomon’s Temple; 1 Kings 7:13 names Hiram as coming from Tyre.
Tyre appears in at least 50 verses across 18 books. Ezekiel addresses it as a city that “dwells at the entries of the sea,” calling it a trader to many coastlands Ezekiel 27:3. The same passages announce opposition against Tyre, speak of many nations coming against it, and describe the destruction of its walls and towers Ezekiel 26:3 Ezekiel 26:4. Isaiah also contains an oracle concerning Tyre and refers to its traders and merchants Isaiah 23:1 Isaiah 23:8.
In the Gospels, Jesus withdraws to the region of Tyre and Sidon Matthew 15:21. Acts records a ship coming to Tyre to unload cargo Acts 21:3.
