Nehemiah son of Hacaliah

Nehemiah son of Hacaliah is the governor named in the book of Nehemiah, first identified as being in Susa the palace (Nehemiah 1:1). Scripture names him in at least five verses in Nehemiah. He is called “Nehemiah the governor” alongside Ezra and the Levites when they addressed people who were weeping at hearing the words of the law (Nehemiah 8:9). His name appears on a sealed document with Zedekiah (Nehemiah 10:1). Another passage places his days alongside those of Ezra, the priest and scribe (Nehemiah 12:26), and speaks of Israel giving daily portions to singers and gatekeepers in his days (Nehemiah 12:47).
