The term consistently marks persons—or, in one image, strength—in a condition of lacking food: people receive bread or food, suffer deprivation, or are pictured as being satisfied after need.

   The adjective identifies people in need of food: in Ezekiel 18:7 the APB renders the clause “gives his bread to the hungry,” and in Proverbs 25:21 it renders an enemy needing food. The same condition appears in scenes of deprivation and relief: Psalm 107:5 describes people whose soul grew faint, while Psalm 146:7 speaks of food being given to them.

In the Anselm Project Bible: Across the occurrences, the APB commonly presents the condition with “hungry,” including persons receiving bread, food, or satisfaction. In Isaiah 29:8 and Proverbs 27:7, the translation also uses hunger in dream and appetite imagery; it is a whole-verse translation.
