Identification as an Ishmaelite · dominant
Plural forms identify a caravan in Genesis 37:25 and those to whom Joseph is sold in Genesis 37:27; in Genesis 39:1 the APB renders the clause about those who brought Joseph to Egypt. The same designation is applied to an identified group in Judges 8:24, while singular forms identify Jether in 1 Chronicles 2:17 and Obil in 1 Chronicles 27:30.
In the Anselm Project Bible: Across the cited clauses, the APB generally presents the term as “Ishmaelites” or “the Ishmaelite.” Psalm 83:7 does not visibly isolate a corresponding English rendering.
