Deliverance and Exodus

In the Bible, deliverance and exodus language describes the LORD bringing the sons of Israel out of Egypt, calling for their release, and recalling that departure in later passages. The word or idea recurs in at least 28 verses across 6 books and 20 episodes.

In Exodus, the LORD says that he has come down to deliver the people from the Egyptians and bring them to a good and spacious land; Moses is sent to Pharaoh to bring the sons of Israel out of Egypt Exodus 3:8 Exodus 3:10. Pharaoh is told, “Let my people go,” so that they may serve the LORD Exodus 7:16. Other verses identify the LORD as the one who brought Israel out of Egypt, including from the house of servants, and recall bread provided in the wilderness Exodus 20:2 Exodus 16:32.

Deuteronomy calls this act redemption from the house of slavery and from Pharaoh’s power Deuteronomy 7:8. Joshua recounts the departure, the pursuit to the Red Sea, and the LORD’s guarding of Israel’s journey Joshua 24:6 Joshua 24:17. Judges likewise recalls Israel’s خروج from Egypt, while Hebrews records Joseph speaking of the exodus of the sons of Israel Judges 6:8 Hebrews 11:22.
