Mount of Olives
A mountain ridge east of Jerusalem, called Olivet in several New Testament passages.
In the Bible, the Mount of Olives is a ridge east of Jerusalem, also called Olivet. The name occurs in at least 8 verses across 7 books, from Zechariah 14:4 to Acts 1:12. Zechariah describes it as facing Jerusalem on the east and speaks of a future division of the mountain. Jesus sits there opposite the temple while Peter, James, John, and Andrew question him privately (Mark 13:3). Matthew and Mark report that they went there after a hymn, while Luke says Jesus went there according to his custom and the disciples followed (Matthew 26:30; Mark 14:26; Luke 22:39). Acts calls Olivet near Jerusalem (Acts 1:12).
