43Her cities have become a horror, a land of dryness and Arabah, a land in which no man dwells and through which no son of man passes.44I will visit Bel in Babylon and bring out his swallowing from his lip, so that nations will no longer flow to him; the wall of Babylon has also fallen.45Go out from her midst, my people, and each man deliver his life from the burning anger of the face of the LORD.46Do not let your heart grow faint or fear the report heard in the land, when a report comes in one year and after it another report in the following year, violence in the land, and ruler upon ruler.47Therefore, behold, days are coming when I will visit the idols of Babylon; all her land will be put to shame, and all her slain will fall in her midst.48Sing over Babylon, O heavens and earth and all that is in them, for from the north the destroyers will come against her, declares the LORD.49Babylon also must fall with the slain of Israel; with Babylon also have fallen the slain of all the land.50Survivors from the sword, go; do not stand still; remember the LORD from afar, and let Jerusalem come up in your heart.51We are ashamed, for we have heard reproach; shame has covered our faces, because foreigners have entered the sanctuary of the house of the LORD.52Therefore, behold, days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will visit her idols, and throughout all her land the slain will groan.53Though Babylon should rise to the heavens and fortify the height of her strength, destroyers will still come against her from me, declares the LORD.54A sound of outcry from Babylon and great destruction from the land of Chaldea.55For the LORD is destroying Babylon and will make the great voice perish from her; their waves have roared like many waters, and their voice has given forth a roar.56For the destroyer has come against her, against Babylon, and her mighty men have been captured; their bows have been broken, because the God of recompenses, the LORD, will surely repay.57I will make her officials and her wise men, her governors and her rulers and her mighty men drunk, and they will sleep a perpetual sleep and will not awake, declares the king whose name is the LORD of Hosts.58Thus says the LORD of Hosts: The broad wall of Babylon will be utterly stripped, and her high gates will be set on fire; the peoples will labor for nothing and the nations for fire, and they will grow weary.59The word that Jeremiah the prophet commanded Seraiah son of Neriah son of Mahseiah when he went with Zedekiah king of Judah to Babylon in the fourth year of his reign; Seraiah was the chief officer of the rest.60Jeremiah wrote on one scroll all the calamity that would come upon Babylon, all these words that are written concerning Babylon.61Jeremiah said to Seraiah: When you come to Babylon, see and read aloud all these words.62And you shall say: O LORD, you have spoken against this place that it should be cut off so that no one will dwell in it, neither man nor beast, for it will be a devastation forever.63When you have finished reading this scroll, tie a stone to it and cast it into the midst of the Euphrates.64And you shall say: Thus Babylon will sink and will not rise again because of the calamity that I am bringing upon her, and they will grow weary. Here end the words of Jeremiah.
