The attested use concerns inner thoughts or mental reflection: thoughts on the king’s bed and thoughts of the heart in Daniel 2:29 and Daniel 2:30, and thoughts associated with alarm and changed appearance in Daniel 5:6, Daniel 5:10, and Daniel 7:28. Daniel 4:16 places the form in a clause about a changed heart, so the translation supports an inner-state setting but does not isolate its contribution.

In Daniel 2:29 the APB renders the king’s thoughts on his bed as concerning what will be after this, and in Daniel 2:30 it renders thoughts of the heart. In Daniel 5:6, Daniel 5:10, and Daniel 7:28, the APB presents thoughts as alarming their bearer; Daniel 4:16 places the form in the clause where a heart is changed.
