qad.may marks persons or things as first or earlier in an ordered sequence.

The term marks what comes first or stands earlier within a group or sequence: the first creature in Daniel 7:4, the first horns in Daniel 7:8, and earlier kings in Daniel 7:24.

   In Daniel 7:4, the feminine singular adjective identifies the lion-like figure at the opening of the vision; the APB renders the clause “The first was like a lion.” In Daniel 7:8 and Daniel 7:24, plural forms distinguish three horns and kings from another arising figure; the APB renders them as “the first horns” and “the earlier ones.”
