qo.dam marks a person, action, or object as being before another, especially in a king’s or God’s presence.

As a preposition, qo.dam marks someone or something as before another person or in that person’s presence: speakers stand before kings, petitioners are before God, and objects are brought or set before a recipient.

   The prepositional form places people, speech, or objects before a specified figure: in Daniel 2:25 the APB renders Daniel as brought “before the king,” while in Daniel 6:11 it renders Daniel making petition and supplication “before his God.” Daniel 7:10 likewise depicts attendants standing before him, and Ezra 7:19 renders vessels delivered “before God in Jerusalem.”

In the Anselm Project Bible: The APB commonly expresses the relation with “before,” including appearances before a king or God; in some clauses its exact contribution is less isolable because the translation renders the whole verse rather than aligning individual words.
