ya.pah describes shining forth, whether from God, a place, or light in a darkened setting.

The attested use describes shining forth or light becoming visible: God is portrayed as shining from places or being called upon to shine, while Job’s scenes speak of light shining upon, from, or even within darkness.

   The Hiphil forms describe God shining from Mount Paran in Deuteronomy 33:2 and from Zion in Psalm 50:2; Psalm 94:1 addresses God with the request to shine forth. In Job 3:4, light is forbidden to shine upon a day, while Job 10:3 speaks of shining upon the counsel of the wicked and Job 37:15 of the light of God’s cloud shining.

In the Anselm Project Bible: The APB commonly presents the action with “shone forth” or “shine,” as in Deuteronomy 33:2, Psalm 50:2, Psalm 94:1, and Job 37:15. In Psalm 80:2, however, the translation gives “rouse your might and come,” so its wording does not visibly isolate the term’s contribution.
