Prostithemi is used for bringing people, things, or further actions into what is already present.
The verb most often marks an addition to an existing whole: people are joined to the Lord or a community, and further things are supplied or added. It also describes adding a further action or item to what has already occurred, such as sending another slave, telling a parable, or adding imprisonment to prior deeds.

In Acts 2:41 and Acts 2:47, passive and active forms occur where those receiving the word are brought into the growing body and the Lord continues this daily. Acts 11:24 and Acts 5:14 likewise place the passive forms with crowds or believers joined to the Lord; Acts 13:36 uses the same passive form for David being joined to his fathers.

Adding something further to what is present · common
Luke 12:25 and Matthew 6:27 use the aorist active infinitive for adding a cubit to a span of life. In Luke 12:31, Matthew 6:33, and Mark 4:24, future passive forms occur in promises that things will be added to the hearers; Galatians 3:19 states that the law was added because of transgressions, and Luke 17:5 requests that faith be added.

In Acts 12:3, Luke 20:11, and Luke 20:12, the middle indicative form introduces a further act after the preceding one: seizing Peter also or sending another and then a third slave. Luke 19:11 says that he added a parable, while Luke 3:20 states that imprisonment was added to all the prior acts.
In the Anselm Project Bible: The APB commonly uses "added" for people, provisions, a law, and a measure, while several middle forms are presented with "proceeded" before a further action. Because the APB is a whole-verse translation, these renderings show the clauses' overall presentation rather than a fixed English equivalent.
