A biblical theme linking treasure with the heart and with Jesus’ calls to give to the poor.
The Bible says that a person’s heart is where that person’s treasure is, as stated in Matthew 6:21 and Luke 12:34. The word or idea recurs in at least 5 verses across 3 books. In three passages, Jesus tells individuals to sell possessions or belongings and give to the poor; the passages speak of treasure in heaven or in the heavens and then call the person to follow him (Matthew 19:21; Mark 10:21; Luke 18:22).
