The Law Written on Stones

Scripture says that the words of the instruction were to be written clearly on stones, and Joshua is said to have written the second instruction of Moses upon stones in the presence of the sons of Israel (Deuteronomy 27:8; Joshua 8:32).

The collected language recurs in at least 3 verses across 2 books and 2 episodes. In Joshua, an altar was built from complete stones on which no iron had been used; burnt offerings and peace offerings were offered to the LORD there (Joshua 8:31).
