The Bible speaks of envy as language associated with malice, strife, rivalry, and other harmful patterns. The word or idea recurs in at least 11 verses across 10 books. Romans lists envy among unrighteousness, greed, murder, strife, and deceit (Romans 1:29); Titus recalls living in malice and envy (Titus 3:3). Galatians warns that those who practice listed things including envyings will not inherit the kingdom of God (Galatians 5:21). First Peter calls for putting aside envies alongside malice, deceit, hypocrisies, and slanders (1 Peter 2:1). Matthew and Mark say envy was involved in delivering him (Matthew 27:18; Mark 15:10).
