He Did Right in the LORD's Sight
Biblical Theology
Themes
A recurring biblical assessment applied to David, Asa, and others, with some passages adding qualifications.
The Bible says that “he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD” is a recurring assessment in the books of Kings and Chronicles. The word or idea recurs in at least 14 verses across 3 books. David is described as doing what was right, with an exception concerning Uriah the Hittite (1 Kings 15:5); Asa is compared with David (1 Kings 15:11). Some passages qualify the assessment: one says it was “not with a whole heart” (2 Chronicles 25:2), and another adds that the people still acted corruptly (2 Chronicles 27:2).
