The Bible depicts Jesus casting out spirits with a word, rebuking demons, and giving the Twelve authority over unclean spirits. In Matthew, many demon-possessed people are brought to him, and he casts out the spirits and heals the sick (Matthew 8:16). Demons ask to be sent into a herd of pigs (Matthew 8:31), and Luke says they come out of a man and enter the pigs (Luke 8:33). Luke also reports demons calling Jesus the Son of God before he rebukes them and does not permit them to speak (Luke 4:41). The word or idea recurs in at least 6 verses across 2 books and 5 episodes.
