Pharaoh Neco

Pharaoh Neco is the king of Egypt who, in 2 Kings, killed King Josiah at Megiddo (2 Kings 23:29). His name occurs in at least 10 verses across 3 books, under forms including Pharaoh-neco and Neco. The passage also says that he made Eliakim king, changed his name to Jehoiakim, and took Jehoahaz away to Egypt (2 Kings 23:34). Jehoiakim assessed the land to give silver and gold to Pharaoh Neco (2 Kings 23:35). Jeremiah names Pharaoh Neco’s army at Carchemish as defeated by Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon (Jeremiah 46:2).
