Miriam

Miriam in the Bible is a prophetess and the sister of Aaron and Moses, who took a tambourine as women followed her with tambourines and dances. She sang, “Sing to the LORD,” after the horse and rider were shot into the sea (Exodus 15:20; Exodus 15:21).

Numbers names Miriam as the daughter of Amram and Jochebed (Numbers 26:59). With Aaron, she spoke against Moses (Numbers 12:1). Afterward, she was leprous and shut outside the camp for seven days; the people did not set out until she returned (Numbers 12:10; Numbers 12:15). Miriam died and was buried at Kadesh (Numbers 20:1). Her name occurs in at least 10 verses across Exodus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy.
