Father of Haman, named in the book of Esther.
Hammedatha is the father of Haman, the Agagite named in Esther. His name occurs in at least 5 verses, all in Esther, where Haman is repeatedly identified as “son of Hammedatha.” Esther 3:1 says that King Ahasuerus promoted Haman above the other officials. Later passages call Haman an enemy or vexer of the Jews and describe his plot against them; these statements concern Haman, while Hammedatha is named through that family identification (Esther 3:10; Esther 8:5; Esther 9:24).
