Amos

Amos in the Bible is the figure named at the opening of Amos, where the text places him among shepherds from Tekoa (Amos 1:1). He tells Amaziah that he is not a prophet or a prophet’s son, but a herdsman and gatherer of sycamores (Amos 7:14).

Amaziah, the priest of Bethel, calls Amos “Seer” and tells him to go to Judah and prophesy there (Amos 7:12). In two exchanges, the LORD asks Amos what he sees: a plumbline and a basket of summer fruit (Amos 7:8; Amos 8:2). Amos is named in at least seven verses, all in the book of Amos.
