Jerusalem's Infidelity: Shame, Judgment, and Vindication (part 2)
Ezekiel 16:45-63
45You are the daughter of your mother, who abhorred her husband and her sons; and you are the sister of your sisters, who abhorred their husbands and their sons. Your mother was a Hittite and your father an Amorite.46Your older sister is Samaria; she and her daughters dwell on your left. Your younger sister who dwells on your right from you is Sodom and her daughters.47You did not walk in their ways, and in their abominations you did; you did only a little less, and you corrupted yourself more than they in all your ways.48As I live, declares the Lord GOD, if Sodom your sister and her daughters have done as you and your daughters have done.49Behold, this was the iniquity of Sodom your sister: pride, fullness of food, and quiet ease came to her and to her daughters, and she did not strengthen the hand of the afflicted and the needy.50They exalted themselves and did abomination before my face, and I removed them as I saw.51Samaria has not sinned even half your sins, and you multiplied your abominations more than they, and you justified your sisters in all the abominations which you did.52Also you, bear your shame which you judged against your sister in your sins which you abhorred from them; they will be justified apart from you, and also you be ashamed and bear your shame when you justify your sisters.53And I will restore the captivity of them, the captivity of Sodom and her daughters and the captivity of Samaria and her daughters, and the captivity of your sisters in their midst.54So that you may bear your shame and be humiliated because of all that you have done, in that you comforted them.55Your sisters, Sodom and her daughters, will return to their former state, and Samaria and her daughters will return to their former state, and you and your daughters will return to your former state.56Sodom your sister was not mentioned by name in your mouth in the day of your pride.57Before your evil was exposed, at the time of the reproach of the daughters of Aram and all her neighbors—the daughters of the Philistines who despised you from every side.58Your wickedness and your abominations you bore, declares the LORD.59For thus says the Lord GOD: you who despised the oath by breaking the covenant, I will do to you as you did.60And I will remember my covenant with you in the days of your youth, and I will establish for you an everlasting covenant.61And you will remember your ways and be humiliated when you take your older sisters along with your younger sisters, and I will give them to you for daughters, but not by your covenant.62And I will establish my covenant with you, and you will know that I am the LORD.63So that you will remember and be ashamed, and there will no longer be an opening of the mouth for you because of the face of your shame, when I atone for you for all which you did, declares the Lord GOD.
