sha.lah describes failing to give needed attention or care, whether in a charge to servants or a personal plea.

The two attestations show a failure to give due attention or care: a charge not to be negligent in assigned service and a plea not to be neglected personally.

Senses in use

  1. Failing to give due attention or care · dominant

In 2 Chronicles 29:11, the Niphal jussive addresses a group told not to be negligent while they are chosen to stand, minister, and serve. In 2 Kings 4:28, the Hiphil imperfect occurs in a woman's question and plea; the APB renders the clause, "Do not neglect me."

In the Anselm Project Bible: The APB presents the two clauses as "do not now be negligent" in 2 Chronicles 29:11 and "Do not neglect me" in 2 Kings 4:28. These render the clauses' overall sense rather than establishing separate lexical senses.
