The two occurrences show grain in concrete actions: spread over the mouth of a well in 2 Samuel 17:19 and associated with grinding in a mortar in Proverbs 27:22.

   Both occurrences use a common feminine plural absolute noun. In 2 Samuel 17:19 the APB renders grain being spread over the well's mouth; in Proverbs 27:22 it renders a mortar-and-pestle setting in which a fool is ground.

In the Anselm Project Bible: The APB explicitly uses “grain” in 2 Samuel 17:19, while Proverbs 27:22 presents the grinding scene without an identifiable word-for-word rendering. Its wording does not by itself define the term.
