a.raq describes gnawing, whether people gnaw dry ground or “gnawers” afflict someone’s bones.

The attested use describes gnawing: in Job 30:3 people gnaw “the dryness,” while Job 30:17 uses a construct participle for “my gnawers” in connection with bones.

   Both occurrences are Qal active participles. In Job 30:3 the APB renders the clause “they gnaw the dryness,” and in Job 30:17 it renders “my gnawers do not lie down” after describing night digging at the speaker’s bones.
