e.tsem is used as a proper name within lists of places or settlements in Scripture.

The attested forms are proper nouns placed among named locations: Joshua 15:29 and Joshua 19:3 include them in place lists, while 1 Chronicles 4:29 likewise lists the name with other settlements.

   All three occurrences are tagged as a proper noun and occur in sequences of named places. In Joshua 15:29 the APB renders “Baalah, Iyim, and Ezem,” and in Joshua 19:3 it includes “Hazar-shual, Balah, and Ezem”; 1 Chronicles 4:29 similarly renders “And in Bilhah, Ezem, and Tolad,”.

In the Anselm Project Bible: The APB presents the term as “Ezem” in each verse, within lists of other named places. The list context and proper-noun morphology provide the basis for identifying its use.
