The term consistently denotes vine fruit: it is seen ripening in clusters, cut and carried at harvest, squeezed into a cup, withheld in agricultural law, and used in descriptions of abundance, lack, or undesirable produce.

   The plural form names fruit ripening on a vine and gathered in a cluster: in Genesis 40:10 the APB renders the clusters as ripening into “grapes,” and in Numbers 13:23 a single cluster is cut from a branch and carried. The same fruit is squeezed into Pharaoh’s cup in Genesis 40:11, prohibited from gathering from untrimmed vines in Leviticus 25:5, and contrasted with its absence on the vine in Jeremiah 8:13.

In the Anselm Project Bible: The APB commonly presents the term as “grapes,” including ripening fruit, a harvested cluster, and fruit squeezed into a cup. In Isaiah 5:2 and Isaiah 5:4 it also renders the expected and failed produce as “grapes” and “sour grapes”; these are verse-level renderings.
