na.im describes what is agreeable or desirable, whether a person, shared dwelling, words, possessions, or a life-setting.

The occurrences use the adjective broadly for what is agreeable or desirable: people and life together, speech and instruction, valuable contents, and settings associated with joy or well-being. The same evaluative use appears when the APB speaks of the LORD and of singing praise.

   The forms describe a favorable quality across varied clauses: in 2 Samuel 1:23 the APB renders Saul and Jonathan as “the loved and the pleasant”; in Psalm 133:1 it describes brothers dwelling together in unity; and in Song of Songs 1:16 it accompanies the address to a friend. The same usage extends to kept sayings in Proverbs 22:18, words in Proverbs 23:8, substance in Proverbs 24:4, and the life-setting described in Psalm 16:6.
