na.ah describes beauty or suitability, of good-news-bearing feet and adorned cheeks, and of holiness fitting God’s house.

The attested uses chiefly describe visible or celebrated beauty, applied to the feet of a messenger and to adorned cheeks; a further use describes holiness as fitting for God’s house.

   In Isaiah 52:7, the Qal perfect plural form occurs in the proclamation of peace, good news, salvation, and God’s reign; the APB renders the opening clause, “How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news.” In Song of Songs 1:10, the same Qal perfect plural morphology occurs with cheeks, ornaments, a neck, and strings of beads; the APB renders, “Your cheeks are lovely with the ornaments.”

   In Psalm 93:5, the Niphal perfect masculine singular form stands in the clause about holiness and God’s house; the APB renders, “holiness befits your house, O LORD, forevermore.”

In the Anselm Project Bible: The APB presents the term with “beautiful” in Isaiah 52:7, “lovely” in Song of Songs 1:10, and “befits” in Psalm 93:5. These render the clauses rather than establish separate English equivalents.
