Bar denotes grain as a food supply, stored, traded, withheld, or abundant in the land.

The noun denotes grain viewed as food and provision: it is gathered and stored, bought and carried, sold or withheld, and pictured in agricultural abundance. The same use also appears where grain is taxed or marketed unjustly and where it is contrasted with straw.

   The masculine singular absolute form occurs where grain is gathered and stored as city food in Genesis 41:35, amassed in Genesis 41:49, and put into sacks in Genesis 42:25; in these clauses the APB renders it "grain." The same form designates what is bought in Genesis 42:3, sold or withheld in Proverbs 11:26, and present in abundance in Joel 2:24 and Psalm 72:16. Amos 5:11 and Amos 8:5 place it in taxation and sale, while Jeremiah 23:28 sets it beside straw.

In the Anselm Project Bible: The APB commonly presents the term as "grain" in scenes of storage, purchase, sale, and abundance. In Jeremiah 23:28 it uses "wheat" in the comparison with straw.
