The attested use most often identifies people collectively through the group to which they belong, including the sons of Judean exile, men, Israel, and exile itself. It also occurs for the king’s sons in Ezra 6:10 and Ezra 7:23; several supplied verses do not make the term’s specific contribution clear in the translation.

   The plural construct forms occur in group designations: in Daniel 2:25 the APB renders “the sons of the Judean exiles,” and in Daniel 2:38, Daniel 5:13, and Daniel 5:21 it renders expressions involving men or captivity. Ezra 6:16 explicitly names both “the sons of Israel” and “the rest of the sons of the exile” at the dedication.

   In Ezra 6:10 the APB places the term in the prayer “for the life of the king and his sons.” Ezra 7:23 likewise places it in the warning that wrath might come upon “the kingdom of the king and his sons.”

In the Anselm Project Bible: Where the clause makes the contribution visible, the APB repeatedly uses “sons,” as in “sons of Israel,” “sons of the exile,” and “the king and his sons.” Its wording does not clearly isolate the term in Daniel 6:14, Daniel 6:25, or Ezra 6:9.
