The attested form is consistently a proper place-name: it marks where David arrives, where a man has a house, the limit of a weeping journey, and Shimei's place of origin.

In 2 Samuel 16:5 the APB renders David as coming "to Bahurim"; in 2 Samuel 17:18 it locates a man's house there, while 2 Samuel 3:16 makes it the point "as far as Bahurim." In 1 Kings 2:8 it identifies Shimei as "from Bahurim," and 2 Samuel 19:17 places the name in the surrounding account of Benjaminite men and the king's crossing.
