The two verses show withdrawal from others: continued withdrawal into deserted places in Luke 5:16 and a private withdrawal to Bethsaida in Luke 9:10.

   In Luke 5:16, the present active participle occurs with continued movement into deserted places and prayer; the APB renders the clause "he continued withdrawing into deserted places and praying." In Luke 9:10, the aorist active indicative describes taking the apostles and withdrawing privately to Bethsaida; the APB renders "taking them he withdrew privately to a city called Bethsaida."
