Trachus describes uneven or difficult terrain, whether places feared by sailors or ways made smooth.

The two occurrences describe rough or uneven terrain: hazardous places approached by a ship and ways contrasted with what becomes smooth.

   In Acts 27:29, the accusative plural masculine form occurs in the fear of falling against hazardous places; the APB renders the clause “against rough places.” In Luke 3:5, the nominative plural feminine form occurs in the contrast between crooked things becoming straight and rough ways becoming smooth; the APB renders “the rough ways shall become smooth.”
