Suzeteo denotes engaging in discussion or dispute, whether among a group or with another person.

The occurrences show engagement in spoken discussion, often in a disputed exchange but also in group deliberation about an event or its meaning. The same activity is directed against Stephen, Jesus, or the disciples in Acts 6:9, Acts 9:29, Mark 8:11, and Mark 9:14, while Mark 1:27, Mark 9:10, Luke 22:23, and Luke 24:15 show people discussing matters among themselves.

1. Engaging in discussion or dispute · dominant

   The present forms describe people in active verbal exchange: in Acts 6:9 the APB renders people "debating with Stephen," and in Mark 8:11 it renders the Pharisees beginning "to argue with him." The same use can concern discussion within a group: in Mark 9:10 the disciples are discussing what the rising from the dead meant, and in Luke 22:23 they discuss among themselves who was about to act.
