Sugkakopatheo is an imperative calling the hearer to join another in suffering, for the gospel or as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.

The two attested uses are direct singular imperatives summoning the hearer to share in suffering: in connection with the gospel in 2 Timothy 1:8 and with the conduct of a good soldier of Christ Jesus in 2 Timothy 2:3.

1. A summons to join in suffering · dominant

   In 2 Timothy 1:8, the singular aorist active imperative stands after the instruction not to be ashamed and in the clause the APB renders “join me in suffering for the gospel.” In 2 Timothy 2:3, the same form directs the hearer toward suffering “as a good soldier of Christ Jesus” in the APB rendering.
