Senses in use

  1. Place named in assembly addresses · dominant

In Revelation 1:11, the accusative singular form occurs in the instruction to send a scroll to seven assemblies; the APB renders the list with “to Smyrna.” In Revelation 2:8, the dative singular form occurs in the address to the angel of the assembly in that place; the APB renders “the assembly in Smyrna.”

In the Anselm Project Bible: The APB presents the term as “to Smyrna” in the list of assemblies in Revelation 1:11 and as “in Smyrna” for an assembly’s location in Revelation 2:8. These renderings reflect the verse clauses.
