The two occurrences show running ahead: in John 20:4 one runner reaches the tomb before Peter, while in Luke 19:4 a man runs ahead in order to see someone passing through.

   In John 20:4, the aorist active indicative form occurs where one of two runners reaches the tomb first; the APB renders the clause "the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first." In Luke 19:4, the aorist active nominative masculine participle occurs before the climb into a sycamore tree to see the one passing by; the APB renders "he ran ahead to the front and climbed a sycamore tree."
