Prothumos describes readiness or willingness, of the spirit in prayer and of readiness to preach.

The attested use describes willingness or readiness: twice of the spirit set against weak flesh in prayer, and once of a speaker's readiness to preach.

   In Mark 14:38 and Matthew 26:41, the nominative singular neuter form stands in the contrast between a willing spirit and weak flesh as the APB renders the clause. In Romans 1:15, the same form occurs in the speaker's stated readiness to preach; the APB renders, "I am eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome."

In the Anselm Project Bible: The APB presents the term as "willing" in Mark 14:38 and Matthew 26:41 and as "eager" in Romans 1:15. These renderings confirm the verse-level contrast and stated readiness rather than establish separate meanings.
