Pontos names a place listed among regions and among the locations of dispersed strangers.

The term is used as a place-name: it appears in regional lists in Acts 2:9 and in the address to dispersed strangers in 1 Peter 1:1.

   In Acts 2:9, the accusative singular form occurs in a list of peoples and residents associated with several regions; the APB renders the list with “Pontus and Asia.” In 1 Peter 1:1, the genitive singular form occurs among the locations of the dispersion; the APB renders “the dispersion of Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia.”
