Koustodia denotes personnel assigned to secure the tomb and later report what happened.

The term denotes a body of personnel connected with securing the tomb: Pilate authorizes it, the tomb is secured with it, and some of its members report to the high priests.

   In Matthew 27:65, the accusative singular occurs in Pilate's instruction to make the site secure; the APB renders the clause, "You have a guard." In Matthew 27:66, the genitive singular is associated with sealing the stone, and in Matthew 28:11 some from this group go into the city to announce what happened; the APB renders these clauses "with the guard" and "some of the guard came."
