Kerugma is the proclaimed message, heard in calls to repentance and in the message entrusted for others to hear.

The term denotes a proclaimed message: Jonah's message prompts Nineveh's repentance, while other verses speak of a message that is announced, entrusted, heard, or found empty apart from Christ's raising.

1. A message publicly proclaimed · dominant

   In Matthew 12:41 and Luke 11:32, the accusative form occurs in the clause that links Nineveh's repentance with Jonah's proclamation. In 1 Corinthians 15:14 and 1 Corinthians 2:4, nominative forms identify the proclaimed message as what would be empty if Christ had not been raised and as paired with the speaker's word; Titus 1:3 places the dative form in the proclamation through which God's word was revealed.

In the Anselm Project Bible: The APB variously presents the clause with “preaching” in 1 Corinthians 15:14 and 1 Corinthians 1:21, “proclamation” in Titus 1:3, and “preaching” of Jonah in Matthew 12:41. These renderings show the verse-level presentation rather than fixed English equivalents.
